Simulations are niche games, right?
Wrong. Anyone who takes a cursory glance at Steam player numbers will regularly see BeamNG.drive high up the charts.
The main question was: could this popularity translate to console devices? The answer appears to be a resounding yes.
Sony has published digital sales rankings for October 2026 in both the United States and Europe, and despite being in early access and considered quite esoteric in its approach, BeamNG is in the top three for both regions.
For the US, it placed second overall, behind only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for PlayStation Store sales, and in the EU, third, with CoD and EA Sports FC 27 besting it.
It’s a staggering result. While the affordable £17.99/$24.99 price certainly helped, this is a work-in-progress title with a tiny marketing and public relations budget compared to the giants also released last month.
Games it outsold include Madden NFL 27, NBA 2K27, Phantom Blade Zero and Ace Combat 8: Wings Of Theve.
BeamNG’s PS5 conversion has seen some consternation within the title’s community, with some concerned it takes away development resources from the PC build. However, there’s little doubt now that the cash windfall from Sony’s device helps the project’s future endeavours.
“Despite its foibles, BeamNG offers something many PS5 owners have been crying out for: a proper driving simulator,” we said in our hands-on verdict.
Fellow new racing game, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, also debuted strongly, with an eighth-place finish in both regions. PS5 owners who enjoy a diverse range of driving or racing games have arguably never had it so good.
