The CarX franchise is set to expand with an enhanced PC port of CarX Rally entering Steam Early Access.

A port of the 2020 mobile game, the Steam version of CarX Rally is branded as a “realistic rally simulator” with bespoke driving physics and mixed stages incorporating dirt, asphalt and gravel.

Rally games are currently enjoying a renaissance, from the ultra-realistic Assetto Corsa Rally to arcade-focused Super Woden GP: Rally Edge, while the official WRC series is set to return next year.

What could set CarX Rally apart, however, is a level editor, allowing players to create custom special stages and share them online for others to download. It remains to be seen how extensive it is, but the announcement trailer implies you can adjust the terrain type and line it with trackside scenery such as trees and buildings.

The trailer shows a variety of unlicensed rally cars being put through their paces in the dirt, including lookalikes of the Lancia Delta Integrale, BMW M3 E30 and a Volkswagen Polo.

Cars are fully damageable, with the trailer showing dented bodywork and bumpers flying off during impacts. As with other CarX games, there will also be an in-depth tuning system.

A release date was not announced, but CarX Rally will be sliding onto Steam Early Access “soon” and is available to wishlist.

Initially, the Early Access version will include three cars, tuning, two tracks and a level editor. It’s expected to leave Early Access within a year of release, with extra cars, stages and game modes planned for the final version.

The franchise has a precedent for initially releasing titles such as CarX Street and CarX Online Drift Racing Online 2 on mobile before porting them to PC with enhancements. While CarX Street was ported to PlayStation and Xbox, console versions of CarX Rally have yet to be announced.

CarX Rally’s system requirements are listed below.
