It’s not the most obvious candidate for a rally-inspired update, but Bohemia Interactive’s Arma Reforger is set to receive a full-on rally mode DLC in future.
Set during the latter part of the Cold War, Arma Reforger simulates a conflict between the U.S., the Soviet Union and the fictional island of Everon’s Freedom and Independence Army (also known as the FIA. Interpret that as you will…).
Normally, players can utilise a huge arsenal of weapons and military vehicles to defeat their opponents in the game, but will soon be able to harness the power of a souped-up Lada to deliver world peace instead.
We jest, of course, as the Rally DLC will be a standalone mode minus the geopolitics, featuring three rally thoroughbreds based on the game’s incumbent vehicles, plus six stages to drive them on.
The game’s cars are typically based on Eastern European favourites, with the highlight of the DLC, the Šárka 105 RS, a dead ringer for the Škoda 105 (and its more esteemed rally offspring, the Estelle Rallye 130 LR).
Scant concrete information is known about the Rally DLC presently, but Bohemia’s accompanying blurb suggests that players will be able to ‘Race across Arland’s airfield in the rain, descend Kolguyev’s volcanic slopes at dawn, or brave Everon’s forest switchbacks at night’.
It suggests time trials and ghost deltas will also be available, although multiplayer hasn’t been confirmed, which is a shame.
It seems rather incongruous to include rallying in a title not exactly known for its realistic vehicle physics, but we’re eager to give it a whirl once a release date and pricing info are set.
