Och aye the noo! It’s time to dust off all your Scottish clichés (haggis, Irn-bru, porage, tartan, Caramel Wafers, Tam O’Shanters, haggis, Trainspotting, heroin!*), as SCS Software has offered a detailed glimpse at its Edinburgh rework.

Now, as part of Euro Truck Simulator 2’s upcoming UK rework, the Czech studio is bringing one of the game’s most unloved maps up to modern standards, and Scotland’s capital city has been replicated in extraordinary detail, if these braw screenshots are any indication.

Focusing on the area around Princes Street, Edinburgh’s sights are looking resplendent in-game. Naturally, Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline, with the New Town and Old Town presenting a wealth of architectural challenges for SCS’s visual artists.

The Scott Monument, the Balmoral Hotel and St John’s Episcopal Church can all be seen on the main tourist thoroughfare, with the developer promising to add the city’s famous trams, too. Although the presence of normal traffic on Princes Street isn’t entirely accurate, the absence of roadworks on North Bridge is, thank goodness.

The Omni Centre, John Lewis, and St. James Quarter are all recognisable, albeit unbranded (over to you, modders!), and players can also look forward to driving on accurate depictions of the local road network, hopefully with fewer traffic jams (and bams).

SCS also promises to add Arthur’s Seat, an ancient volcano in Holyrood Park, with the Calton Hill folly also clearly on display from the city centre. With so many landmarks to cover, the developer has a tough task in bringing it all to life in ETS2, but it looks much more accurate than Forza Horizon 4’s truncated version already.

Transport

Edinburgh bus station will be added to coincide with the release of the game’s upcoming Coaches mode, with the city’s distinctive Lothian Buses double-deckers also mooted (minus the branding, obviously).

Leith Docks will also make an appearance, potentially offering another in-game port and plenty of jobs to do. Michty me. Waverley Station also provides excellent transport links, but only for passenger services, not freight. Imagine the stramash if it did.

Anyway, lang may yer lum reek, and we look forward to sampling Edinburgh in ETS2 soon, although a release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Crivvens.

* I’m Scottish; I can get away with this type of nonsense, so haud yer wheesht.
