Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds proved that you don’t need to be Mario to be the centerpiece of a fantastic and fun character-based karting game, and Sega has shown that it understands the importance of keeping a game feeling fresh throughout its lifecycle, as it has received regular free character drops since its debut. As the game nears its one-year anniversary, Sega has announced the final free addition of the game’s opening year, and it’s none other than Samba de Amigo’s titular character, Samba the monkey.
The release comes with a pair of skins to choose from for Samba, featuring him with or without his sombrero to his player’s taste, and also brings a new vehicle to the franchise in the form of his Locomotive de Amigo train.
Regular Sonic gamers will know that new characters also come with additional flair to add to the game, and that includes both emotes and a pair of new music tracks. The rhythm-based game is known for having great music, and fans will be excited to hear the new tunes in action.
Amigo joins as the 12th free character added to the game since its release last September, growing the game’s playable roster to 57 racers to choose from in each race.
Gamers excited to get their turn driving as Amigo don’t need to do anything special to add him to their game. The next time you boot up the game, he’ll be there, ready and waiting to race.
You can celebrate Amigo’s arrival by taking part in the game’s Samba de Amigo Festival event, which begins on Thursday at 8:00 PM ET and runs until Sunday at 7:59 ET.
