Star Wars: Galactic Racer is putting one of the galaxy’s most distinctive vehicles in the spotlight as its launch date gets closer. The upcoming intergalactic racing game will let players take control of Skim Speeders, bringing iconic Star Wars vehicles into the fray alongside other vehicles, such as the Speeder Bike and Land Speeder.
Compared to the other vehicles we know about in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the Skim Speeder isn’t the fastest or strongest, but it might be the most versatile. We recently received a new trailer that highlights the Skim Speeder and what makes it so compelling in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, so let’s check out more about the unique vehicle.
Skim Speeders Start Slow But Finish Strong In Star Wars: Galactic Racer
The new trailer is only a couple of minutes long, but provides plenty of juicy details about the Skim Speeder in Star Wars: Galactic Racer.
First and foremost, you’ll immediately notice that the Skim Speeder has the slowest acceleration of any vehicle class in the game. This means you’ll usually start races near the back of the pack, but as the video commentator states, “The Skim Speeder is all about momentum.” By consistently gaining speed and avoiding crashes, the Skim Speeder boasts one of the highest top speeds in the game. Of course, you’ll have to reach that speed through skill and a long build-up, which likely makes the vehicle more skill-based than others in the game.
However, the Skim Speeder seems beefy enough that even if you hit another vehicle or object on the track, you can quickly burst through it without losing much momentum. The same doesn’t apply to something like the Speeder Bike, which has high speed but a small frame, making it more vulnerable to crashes.
Fortunately, the Skim Speeder appears to have great control and handling. The trailer makes a point of highlighting the vehicle’s “cornering ability,” which is basically a form of drifting that lets the Skim Speeder make dramatic turns in the blink of an eye. We can even see the Skim Speeder run parallel to the track’s edges, so you have plenty of freedom in how you approach corners and turns.
The trailer also shows what happens when the Skim Speeder crashes into a wall at high speed, causing the vehicle to malfunction for several seconds. The Skim Speeder can recover more quickly, though, thanks to the Ramjet mechanic. The Ramjet lets you make use of certain temperatures, essentially giving you an afterburner when used in the right environment.
Overall, the Skim Speeder looks like a fairly intriguing vehicle in Star Wars: Galactic Racer that should appeal to most players. We’ll have to see how it handles, along with the other vehicles, when the game releases on Oct. 6, 2026.
