  • VRC releases Formula Alpha mod, mirroring 2026 F1 regulations
  • New Assetto Corsa mod comes with advanced CSP features

Renowned Assetto Corsa modding team VRC (Virtual Racing Cars) has released an authentic mod replicating a 2026 Formula 1 car.

Thought to be the first comprehensive mod of its kind, the Formula Alpha is out now for Assetto Corsa, and includes all the complicated hybrid technology you’d expect from a modern F1 car.

Work on the project began around 10 months ago and involved a deep dive into F1’s controversial new regulations. However, the modding group’s progress was stymied when the FIA introduced new regulations ahead of the Miami Grand Prix on safety grounds.

Miami twice

“By the time Miami arrived, our car was outdated, and we had to update the battery systems to the very latest rule set,” stated Lukas Moellmann, VRC’s Sound Designer and Social-Media Coordinator.

“Around that time we decided to make our car compatible with the pre-Miami rule set and the upcoming changes coming in the next couple of years. So we started to make our car systems future-proof, so to speak. This meant an additional four months of development, during which we established the base needed to support this regulation set for many years to come,” he concluded.

The 3D car model took two full-time artists between ‘eight and 10 weeks’ to complete (as opposed to VRC’s normal three or four-month lead time), and features the new-for-2026 ‘straight mode’ active aero front and rear wings (although no Macarena wing, judging from release footage).

Features

The mod includes a fully integrated setup menu with the latest version of AC’s famous Custom Shaders Patch (the ‘Pro’ version of the car requires a paid CSP membership), plus VRC’s proprietary Track Zone Editor, letting players tune deployment strategies at a granular level.

As you’d expect, the Formula Alpha has authentic sounds and hybrid management, with a super clipping strategy for maximum energy harvesting (you know, the stuff you don’t usually get to see in broadcasts)

Thankfully, VRC, whose clients include the TGR Haas F1 Team, ships a beefy guide to its new creation with each Formula Alpha purchase, with the mod on sale for a minimum of $6.79.
