It’s been over a year since American Truck Simulator’s Road Trip mode was revealed, with developer SCS Software slowly drip-feeding details.
The latest reveal from the Czech studio highlights how the in-game Quick Jobs and Freight Market mechanics will apply to vehicles with fewer than 18 wheels, with a focus on traditional courier-like activities.
Essentially, Freight Market becomes Dispatch Market in Road Trip mode, so you use your own vehicles and incur the costs with it. These missions work similarly to Quick Jobs, in that your success, or ‘courier rating’, is based on time management, vehicle appearance and cargo handling. So, don’t crash and get to your destination on time. Simple.
Building your courier rating gives you access to a wider variety of jobs, including destinations much farther away with higher payouts. The types of jobs in Road Trip mode will naturally be restricted to small pieces of cargo: think documents, seed packets; that type of thing.
Quick Jobs offer similar work but use vehicles provided by the customer, so they pay less. Any money you earn goes into your overarching ATS money pot, shared between Road Trip and standard trucking modes.
After so much teasing, the only question is when Road Trip will be released, with the Ford Car Pack DLC thought to be players’ introduction to the new game mode. This will be followed later by the RAM & Dodge Car Pack, with a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S port of ATS to follow.
