Acclaimed Assetto Corsa modder Nukedrop has just unveiled an intriguing new way to play Kunos Simulazioni’s evergreen racing sim.
Best known for creating scratch-built tracks for AC, including the likes of Circuit Thermalito and Crest Da Cauras, both of which have since been ported to Rennsport, Nukedrop has created an all-new vehicular game mode with a distinct Vampire Survivors vibe.
Titled ‘Nukedrop Zombies’, the all-in-one track package sees players facing off against hordes of zombie cars (yes, they do look a lot like Fiat Multiplas), which must be defeated by using a selection of weapons. The goal is to survive as long as possible and keep moving, since your weapons fire faster the quicker you drive. The aim is then to rack up as high a score as possible by gathering Exp and building your loadout.
To install, players simply drop the downloaded package into Content Manager as normal, and it’ll automatically work with any car. Weapons attach to each car’s 3D mesh thanks to clever raycast tech, with a custom HUD keeping players abreast of the ensuing chaos.
Some of the upgrades and weapons you can use to tackle the hordes and their eight bosses include:
- Saw blades
- Stealth bomber and Apache helicopter support
- Snowplough and ram armour
- Armed ice cream van distraction
- Active reloads, in the style of Gears of War
In future, Nukedrop hopes to add multiplayer and support for more tracks outside the default arena setting, with the full mod available on his Patreon for $4 / £3.50 per month. Users cancel their subscription at any time.
This includes access to all his previous work, including an experimental LiDAR build of Pikes Peak, Colorado, a bespoke particle system for AC and an officially licensed version of Buttonwillow Raceway.
