Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Is Keeping the Free Characters Coming, With Bayonetta

While the world of karting games may have a seemingly permanent top dog in the Mario Kart series, with many challengers coming and going through the years, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has proven there’s still plenty of space between a failed franchise and Mario Kart-level success. The Sonic-based racing game has carved out a respectable place in the racing genre, with gamers drawn to its high-quality racing.

Another draw of the game is its roster of racers, which draws from not just the Sonic games, but from a range of video game franchises. Adding new racers lets gamers find new favorites while keeping the racing action from getting stale. That’s why throughout its first year, Sega routinely added free DLC characters to the roster, with thirteen racers added as part of the game’s first season:

As the game heads into the second year of its cycle, we now know for sure that this practice will continue and who the first free racer coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be.

Bayonetta Is Ready For Racing Action

The first free character this season comes from one of gaming’s most beloved hack-and-slash franchises, as the pistol-packing witch Bayonetta takes a break from battling supernatural entities to join her friends for some recreational racing.

The Bayonetta franchise began with a splash in 2009 and has continued to receive strong support from both critics and the general gaming public with each new release. With such a popular franchise and main hero, she’s a natural addition to CrossWorlds. Bayonetta joins CrossWorlds with her own unique boost, Butterfly Witch, based on her exploits in her own games.

A release date for the free Bayonetta DLC has not yet been announced, but it is expected soon, with a fall release to kick off the new season of CrossWorlds content.
